5 bag brands to swap in 2015

So I did 5 bags every babe should have both here and my BBM channel (la tendenza lagos) and all of you asked for more. Thanks a million for making me do this. 🙂

It’s a new year and the first thing that crosses my mind is FRESHNESS. To make a fresh start on your bag style, you need to shift focus from the “usual suspects”. Like I always say “stand out, don’t blend in!”. This isn’t to say you trash your old bags, after all …one is silver and the other’s gold. And I’ve got nothing against the brands to swap, I stock ’em, I own some of ’em and I love every good bag.

1. Move from ZARA to Charles and Keith: This is one of the most advocated moves for me given that Zara bags are so good they are all over the place. Just like Zara, Charles and Keith bags make you look expensive and what’s more they aren’t all over.
2. Stand back MICHAEL KORS, here come KATE SPADE and TORY BURCH: I feel like they are contemporaries but quite frankly, I’m not sure about that anymore. What I do know is Kate Spade and Tory Burch give the same opportunity as Michael Kors – the opportunity to own a designer bag without slitting your throat.
3. Go from COACH to DKNY: They both love the grapheme art and rightly so too. However, I’m looking to do something different.

4. Life should be sweet with DOLCE & GABBANA but sweeter with BRAHMIN: Now Brahmin bags are the truth when it comes to quality bags. The shapes and colours are just great. Perhaps you should join me in my resolution to own a Brahmin bag this year.

5. The devil wears PRADA, angels should wear BALENCIAGA and BOTTEGA VENETTA: What’s absolutely true? Balenciaga and Bottega Veneta bags are the truth when it comes to elitist fashion. Need I say more?

Yayyyy!!! I have that bag in pink and if you are in Lagos, Nigeria you can get it in my store.

The weather today was a little too gloomy for my liking, so I decided to work an indoor outfit post! Plus, these Charles by Charles David “Pact” pumps arrived today in the mail, and I couldn’t resist taking them out of their shoe box for some fun. Unfortunately, as I’ve mentioned in this post, I have unbelievably small feet for my height and have come to the sad terms that I can only wear size 4 or 4.5 pumps, and the smallest form that these beautiful burgundy heels come in is a size 5. Well, when I had seen these online a couple days ago (and fell in mad love), I had talked myself into believing that maybe – just maybe! – I could live with a size 5 shoe for once. Ha! Who was I kidding? Of course my feet wouldn’t just magically elongate themselves by a few…

FAB – the new way to fabulosity

FAB – the new way to fabulosity[1]

You know that thing about if happiness came in a pill, everyone would be happy?  Being the ‘stylista’ that I am and avid Kimora Lee Simmons lover, I started to wonder ‘what if fabulosity came in a can?’  In her book on Fabulosity, KLS says Fabulosity is a state of everything that is fabulous & a quality ascribed to that which expresses glamour, style, charisma, power, and heart.

The Urban Dictionary says only a select few out of the whole human population are fabulous enough to live in ‘fabulosity’.  So what’s a girl like me to do?  Before you start thinking that fabulosity=all things glam only, stop and think again.

Enter Forever Living’s exceptional energy drink – FAB.

With much ado about the down sides of most energy drinks on the market (see this article BBC on energy drinks) and the ever increasing need to keep up with the fast pace of our world (or is it the rat race), it’s no surprise that FLP should come up with such an exceptional product.  FAB is fabulosity in a can.  It’s what you reach for when you want ‘clean’, ‘sustainable’ energy.

FAB is what you drink when you need to get into the state of mind that says confidence and style have kissed, energy and passion have met.  FAB is the energy drink that helps you channel the energies of your inner and outer beauty.

FAB delivers verve without incorporating the famed culprit ‘caffeine’.   Check out this quote from Forever Living Products – ‘FAB’s “boost” is different from other energy drinks because it gives you both immediate and long-term energy. The immediate boost comes from guarana, a natural ingredient that is very popular in Brazil, while the long-term energy is powered by ADX7 technology: a proprietary blend of adaptogenic herbs and other nutritionals developed by a leading Russian sports scientist and researcher. ADX7 has helped Russian track and field athletes win over 130 medals in Olympic competition!

FAB is a quick, refreshing way to stay energized and alert all day long. And it revitalizes you so you have the endurance and concentration to do all the things you have to do, plus the things you want to do.  Guarana provides a natural boost powered by a proprietary blend of adaptogenic herbs’.

So what you gon’ do? Wait till the rat race drains you out or reach for a can of FAB?

The bags you covet for under $100.

love bags, love style

The House of Adelaide

I’ve been combing stores lately looking for the perfect bag to replace ole faithful, my cross body black faux ostrich beauty I’ve been dragging around with me for the past year. It was stylish, comfortable and was able to hold valuable things like my laptop and mid-day hummus snack. But unfortunately she is starting to show wear and will soon be sent out to pasture. And as i’m sure you know it could take weeks, months even, before you find that perfect bag, and when you do, its $1,800. Then you cry.

Not really, but you get the point, with designer bags costing two months worth of rent its hard to justify such a splurge. Luckily for us there are plenty of places out there that offer designer inspired duds for way, way less. Here are some of may favorites. They’re all under $100, so feel free to treat yourself…

HP Envy Music Festival – what to wear

Geek is chic! And if by now you’re not sure you’ve gotta ask Angela Ahrendts ex CEO of Burberry why she moved over to Apple. Better still, you would beg @gbemioo to give you a ticket to the much raved about HP Envy music festival. Lol!

Topping my list of things trending now is the integration of various aspects of life – business, technology, industry with fashion, style, music. Makes life more meaningful. The Hp Envy event is strictly by invitation on 18 October, 2013 so you know it’s not the time to be sloppy. Loads of artistes from @iamniyola to @iceprincezamani are showing up there. Whachu gon’ do?

I figure that a lot of guys will turn up looking like Bez, the glasses and all. Others will just be laid back daper like Tu Face but the girls???

1. Hair: I like to work with themes, you know? It makes dressing up or down much easier. For this event, I’m favouring the bun (that’s refusing to go outta fashion) either piled high or just a bit low. I’m also thinking ponytail or even pigtails. Trust me, pigtails make you look younger and more geek chic than ponytails. Of course, if you wear short hair a lightly tussled hair-do is perfect.

2. Accessories: For my geek-chic look, I’d do without my earrings or wear studs but I will compensate with stacking bracelets, charm beads, my wristwatch OR a neckpiece and some bracelets. Depending on what I’m wearing I would hold a clutch or carry a messenger bag.

3. Clothes: Depending on what you’re going to do – party like a rockstar only or network and party, I’m favouring shift dresses, jumpsuits, denim looks, shorts, peg pants, skirts, tartan/plaid (which is trending now). My ideal look will be buttoned up denim shirt plus a floral pleated skirt, slippers (not flip-flops o!) and a messenger bag. I expect to see high tops, sneaker wedges, the whole range of quirky fashion.

4. Makeup: This should by no means be loud so I’m favouring the ONE only principle that is only one bold colour on your face be it lips, cheeks, eyes. Just one pop of colour. Though I will permit falsies *chuckles*

I didn’t put any pictures in here but you would get all the inspiration you need in my Looks I love tab. Need I say your babeliness game is incomplete if you’ve got hygiene all wrong? Don’t forget to freshen up, chew a piece of gum or whatever else you know to do.

Let’s have fun tomorrow! For more detz, you can tweet at @gbemioo #hpenvymusicfestival #imadumpcoachella

GTbank-LFDW 2013 is here! What to wear…

So like me you are a lover of fashion but couldn’t get a spot at all the fashion week events held in Paris, Milan and New York? Don’t even break a sweat! The whole world knows that Africa is the place to be for everything from business to fashion (you’ve noticed that many designers use African print, haven’t you?) and that’s why GTBank is bringing the Lagos Fashion and Design Week from 23- 26 October, 2013.

Yayyyyyyyy!!!!!!! Im practically going insane here and you must understand why. Anyway, my focus today is … What to wear to… I plan to make this a more regular entry when there’s an interesting event in the works.

The key for any fashion week is to not be a fashion victim. Don’t throw so many things together in the name of avant-garde fashion only to end up looking like a clown. Trust me, that’s the last thing you want. And you have to remember that not all runway looks will work ‘offway’. So what am I proposing? Here are my hip tips to represent yourself at fashion week.

1. Trends: A lot of things are trending this quarter and others have been trending all year long. So pick 2 (workable) trends and combine with one classic trend and a staple item. For instance, combine a tartan/plaid skirt/pants with a white shirt, nude shoes and statement neckpiece. In place of plaid, you can do anything from floral print, animal print to houndstooth or chevron prints. What this tip does is make you safely fashionable but if you’re in doubt, wear a jumpsuit. You can view my post on Jumpsuits.

2. Hair: The classic hair-do I favour is a long wavy weave. If you are like me, you’d have cashed in on Mide’s mane’s independence day promo or sallah promo. However, fashion isn’t always about being safe. You’ve gotta take risks sometimes, so I’d be favouring a pixie cut (think Annne Hathaway, Toni Braxton, Halle Berry or Niyola (brief spell)) even though it’s been ages since I wore short hair. Remember that the hair-do has to match the outfit. You can even do dreads or braids or cornrows with your African print outfits.

3. Theme: I strongly believe that understanding the theme of an event is key to dressing well for it. So I ask myself what do GTBank, Fashion and design stand for? What do they represent? Think youthfulness, being bold, standing out, pacesetting. These should guide your outfit choices.

4. Be real: After the saga of some babes flaunting fake Chanel Lego bags, I’m sure a lot of peeps have realized ‘You can best be you, you can best be real’ if your bag isn’t real Hermes or Balenciaga, just go with the ankara piece you love so much, or your Zara, Topshop or whatever else. Remember fashion isn’t all about designers and a truly fashionable or stylish babe knows just how to combine high street and designer items. Trust me,Fashion is an expression of your reality amd style is…..

I’m not really a pictures person but I do try, so I’m bringing this picture of one of my idols – Omoyemi Akerele and Ono Bello whose site I got the pictures.
