,Today you are you..

I’m so happy I have found someone who shares my view.  You are you and style should ALWAYS be about you.  Not only does it help your confidence, it helps your pocket. *smiles*

Finding your personal style can be a challenge. It can be a daunting, unimaginable task. But good news! Don’t worry! It isn’t something you just arrive at and stop. It is a journey, you are forever recreating yourself. That’s why I’m here, to help you along the way. This will be our first step.
One thing I’ve learned though all my amazing shopping trips and peering over blogs for countless hours is to have a style. Have a look that’s purely you. It doesn’t have to be anything extraordinary, just a concept of how you want to look and what you love to wear.
It will start with something small, like a jacket, or a pair of jeans that fit perfectly. Something about a particular garment (doesn’t even have to be a garment, could be a pillow, a painting, or a rug!) that you find soothing, your soul attaches to…

What to wear to Sisters with Soul and Smooth FM’s Luxury Concert

Oh no!!! It’s not too late for me to help you with Sisters with Soul, really it isn’t. I’ve been off the radar so I couldn’t get this in. So I’ma make it quick. I’m instantly thinking of plaid, hound’stooth, metallics, weaves, pixie cut, falsies, bold colours, feminine, flirty, comfy, and the pretty Ankara prints….Let’s get specific.

1. Hair: This evening, you need the most glamorous do ever. From your straight sleek weaves to the wavy ones or to the baddest cut ever. You should ensure that your hair works for this event. Feminine and sexy

2. Clothes: My ideal look tonight is not the over flogged evening gown, nossirr!!!!!!! I’d be rocking a jumpsuit. If you would love to do a dress, think short (not extra short), flared, pleated or perhaps a bandage dress if you’ve got the body for it. You can also do a romper, high waisted pants. Think glam, be glam!

3. Accessories: There is no better event than this to wear those really bold statement neckpieces you’ve hidden away for so long. It doesn’t matter if it’s plastic or gold-plated, you should consider wearing a neckpiece. But note that this should work with and not against your outfit. Think bangles, rings and don’t forget your wristwatch.

4. Shoes: This is the time to really channel your inner diva, really. Pumps, booties, peep-toes even gladiators would work depending on your outfit. The key for shoes is comfy, really.

5. Bag: Depending on what you’re wearing, the ideal bag might be a clutch but make it an oversized clutch. A messenger bag, crossbody bag or tote should work. Let your clothes dictate. Do not forget hygiene and confidence: Everything you do in steps 1-3 above will just go to the dustbin if you don’t have your babeliness game on (Proper hygiene and a healthy dose of confidence).

6. Don’t forget to get your makeup, pedicure and manicure done. And like I always say, babeliness begins with cleanliness.

I love Mary J Blige and always will. I also love all the babes sharing the stage tonight. Special love to Niyola. Whatever it is, please tag your pictures with latendenzalagos and let me see what you’re wearing.

Phillip Lim’s Target

I can hear you thinking bull’s-eye?  But I’m actually referring to Phillip Lim’s much talked about and greatly loved bag collection for Target!

Even though there was absolutely no way for me to be in the store when it opened, I did feel the same sense of excitement and elation when the news broke.  In my world of designer vs. high street fashion, it’s the only question on my mind.  And when De Divah Deals requested that I repost Duro Olowu + JC Penney on Facebook, I knew there’s something right about my world.

What makes designers collaborate with high street?

If you’d never heard of Phillip Lim before, you sure know him now (and I’m speaking to myself mainly).  And it’s pretty much the same way that a lot of career women (middle-class) find themselves stocking Michael Kors, Marc Jacobs, Tory Burch accessories (in Lagos, Nigeria, at least) instead of Prada, Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga…Please do not get me wrong,  I totally love Louis Vuitton, Prada, Balenciaga and all they represent (the snag is I can’t ALWAYS afford ’em) and I’m by no means saying that MK and Marc have high street collabos (or not) but they have certainly made themselves available to people like us (whose limit for designer items is below $200).  And that’s precisely why Phillip Lim would do something for Target – to make himself available to us.

In this day and age when designers appear to exist only for the elite and our beloved celebs, Phillip’s move is absolutely on point.  Not to come across as desperate (after all, it’s my money I’d spend), I would love to see designers (not celebrities) make an attempt to broaden their reach from haute couture and make more prêt-a- porter and affordable items (since they’ve made Prive, Atelier and other exclusives).  It’s absolutely possible!

What to wear to Glo Evergreen series with Ebenezer Obey

Whatever you do, please don’t go all green.  I mean it.  ‘Evergreen’ doesn’t mean you are expected to wear green, and if after this I catch you wearing ALL green I will be extremely upset! *smiles*

Okay, let’s get to it.  This is really one of the easiest events to get ready for ‘cause Ebenezer Obey represents that part of the ‘70s & ‘80s that our parents and all lovers of old school don’t wanna let go. Hence the term ‘evergreen’.  So what am I on about?  To prepare for this event, it would make a lot of sense to channel the ‘70s and ‘80s as well as any other vintage look.

I’m instantly thinking of ‘fros, bootleg pants, lace, velvet, colours, florals, prints, clogs, mules, Ankara….Let’s get specific.

  1. Hair: Dump the long weave and go for a ‘fro, braids, corn-rows, a bun or any hairstyle that screams vintage. This is a themed look and you have to go all the way.  Now that we’ve all decided to go natchy, it shouldn’t be difficult to get an afro or use a wig.   But remember, Ebenezer Obey isn’t a hippie so you don’t wanna go all out with bright-coloured hair.
  2. Clothes: My ideal look is something out of the ‘Ole ku’ video or perhaps I should reference the more recent collabo that Tu Face has with Victor Olaiya.  It would be interesting to go all out and use aso-oke instead of Ankara but I do not know how far I am willing to go J  Other things I’d recommend (which are probably in your wardrobe, anyway) are tee-shirt /blouse + lace skirt, lace dress, jumpsuits with bell/flared bottoms, short flared skirts, bell-bottom pants + statement blouse, maxi dresses.  Think polka dots, florals, prints… think bright and colourful.  Did you know the military style look is more vintage than we care to admit?
Clogs, mules, slip-ons, strappy sandals, gladiator sandals.  I really won’t wear pumps (peep toes perhaps) but style is about you.
